
Straightness is one of the most underestimated drivers of machining stability. Even small amounts of bow or camber affect feeding, tool loading, and dimensional consistency, especially in Swiss machining and long production runs.
Bar distortion can originate at the mill, during heat treatment, transport, or storage. Once distortion exists, it does not correct itself.
When a bent bar enters a machine, feeding becomes uneven. That uneven feed creates vibration, chatter, guide bushing wear, and frequent offset adjustments. Tool life shortens, and scrap increases over time.
